News and Events for the Radon and Vapor Intrusion Industry

Introducing….The Very First IEA Podcast!

Introducing The Indoor Environments Project – A Podcast by IEA!

We’re proud to launch The Indoor Environments Project—a podcast where we bring real-world stories, science, and expertise in indoor air quality, radon, vapor intrusion, & more.

🎙️ Episode 1: Houses from Heck

Available now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or CLICK HERE.

To kick things off, we’re sitting down with two incredible voices in the field:

Chad Robinson – Founder of Building Performance Co., Mechanical Engineer, and Lead Trainer at KSU’s Regional Radon Training Center.

Josh Kerber – Environmental Research Scientist with the Minnesota Department of Health, Atmospheric Scientist, and Chair of the CRCPD’s E-25 Radon Committee.

They’ll take us into the field with stories of the most difficult, confusing, and downright wild mitigation jobs they’ve encountered—and how they tackled them.

📌 Whether you’re new to the industry or a long-time professional, this episode will have something for you.

We’re thrilled to introduce the new IEA Sponsors & Advocates Program!

This new initiative provides businesses (and individuals) with two distinct pathways to support the mission and impact of the Indoor Environments Association:

  • Become an IEA Sponsor – for those seeking strategic brand visibility through our publications, events, and digital platforms. Tiered opportunities (Supporter up to Diamond) allow you to position your business as a leader in the radon and vapor intrusion industries, with benefits including logo placement, ads, and recognition across events and publications.
  • Become an IEA Advocate – for partners committed to policy change. These partners actively support policy change to enact and strengthen regulatory programs, mainstream ANSI‑AARST standards into laws, building codes and professional practices, and protect occupants, ensuring that radon risk reduction remains a public policy priority.

Whether you want to reinforce your presence in the field or shape the future of indoor air protections, there’s a sponsorship or advocacy level suited to your commitment. CLICK HERE to join the movement today!

NRPP-Certified? Update Your Profile

Please take a moment to make sure your contact information in your certification profile in the portal is current and includes your personal email address.

This is important for two reasons:

1. If you leave your job or change employers, NRPP will not have a way to contact you or send you updates and notices about your certification and you may miss important information.
2. This certification belongs to you and not your employer. As long as your certification is current you are NRPP certified, even if you change jobs or start working for another company. If we only have your work email on file, see #1 above.

NRPP Needs Exam Item Writers!

NRPP is preparing to begin writing test questions for the new exams and are seeking writers who have the following experience:

• Mitigation system installation in single family and commercial or other large buildings (Radon Mitigation Installer and Specialist)
• Oversight of mitigation system installation, including design and quality management, in single family and commercial or other large buildings (Radon Mitigation Specialist)
• Radon measurement in single family and commercial or other large buildings (Radon Measurement Field Technician and Professional).

NRPP will hold virtual training sessions to teach volunteers how to write test questions. Participants will then write and review questions in NRPP’s virtual platform. If you are interested in contributing to the new exams and setting the bar for incoming professionals, please complete this form if you would like to participate. Recruitment will begin soon.

Open for Public Review:

MW-RN Standard Revisions

Public Review—MW-RN Revisions (Protocol for the Collection, Transfer and Measurement of Radon in Water)

This revision proposal responds to both public comments and committee member comments.

This standard of practice contains minimum requirements and guidance for measuring radon in water that enters a building through groundwater supplies for determining if mitigation is necessary to protect current and future occupants of dwellings and other buildings. This standard includes procedures for the collection and transport of water samples, as well as protocols for the quantitative transfer of the sample to a measurement device to determine radon concentrations in water.

Deadline for comments: September 8, 2025

Capitol Hill Update

The President’s FY 2026 Budget proposed to eliminate State Indoor Radon Grants (SIRG) indicating that” responsibility for funding local indoor radon reduction programs is best placed with states and localities.” The House and Senate appropriations bills for FY26, which have been passed by the respective chambers’ full appropriations committees, both propose to fund SIRG at a level comparable to this year.
The President’s FY 2026 Budget also proposed to eliminate the Indoor Air: Radon Program, claiming that “all applicable statutory work (e.g., Toxic Substances Control Act, Clean Air Act, etc.) will be accomplished in other programs within the Indoor Air and Radiation Program Area.” There is no evidence that other radiation programs have the capacity to lead the Radon Program, and it’s unlikely to happen with the President’s proposed 49% cut – or the House bill’s 49% cut. The Senate has almost level-funded it. Neither the House nor Senate appropriations bill mention the Radon Program.
The House and Senate have recessed until September.
We have been working to get the programs funded. Now we need your help. Please reach out to your Senators and House member’s office or visit them at the local office or a local event during August, and ask that they ensure that the EPA Indoor Air: Radon Program and SIRG programs are fully funded.
